what's up?

roosevelt for president

saw this car toward the end of the day at the azalea festival. found my better half there, already chatting up the owner.

if i remember correctly [better half can correct me if i'm wrong], he'd bought the car from some really old guy he knew. so old, there was a roosevelt for president sticker on the window. can't remember if it was just stashed in a garage for years before it was sold, but wow.

i think he said he fixed the car up, got it running again. said he took back to visit the really old guy, who was so happy to see that the sticker had been kept in place on the window. after so many years, it just belongs there.

javier's hot potato

it got pretty hot in the afternoon on saturday in chino. had to take a few breaks and hide in the shade. days like that make me want some sort of air conditioned/cold water suit to wear, sort of michelin man looking. that, or just wear shorts and a bikini top, but then i'd just burn up in the sun.

this is one of the cars i found early in the morning, parked on the shady side of the street. good thinking...did you scope it out the day before?

i've seen this car before. it's javier's car; says so on the tag. and he introduced himself as javier too, so let's just call him javier. :)  and it's a tan color, sort of like a potato, so just go with it. i'm running out of title ideas. lol.

he asked me about how to get a picture. easiest is to send me an email, and i'll upload it to my print vendor site, and you can either order direct from there, or i can make other arrangements for ordering and delivery. if javier happens to be looking for this one, he can find it here.

this looks a little dark on my screen here. i'll have to check it out somewhere else. might have to tweak it a bit more.

church day

sunday, so why not post a car with a church. i like the car, but churches and me just don't get along.

last year's solitos show at foursquare in whittier. hot day, got there late. i've posted other cars from the show before, so i'm sure it's all been said already.

hot today, and i'm tired. like i said, too much work and no play, is making me a dull boy. so to speak. i really need to get out of this house. didn't get a chance to get out town. not for lack of trying. my better half tried booking stuff at all our favorite places, but apparently, it's spring break, and everything is booked.

my bro was in town all week on business. he moved across country, so haven't seen him since thanksgiving. i got to see him for about half an hour yesterday, before i had to go in to the office to make a last minute fix for people waiting in an office on the east coast. told him we'd take him out to dinner after his meeting, just had to call. well, i guess he was too tired, and didn't even let me know he wouldn't be able to make it.

could have booked an overnight at local hotel, but it was too late, and i can just wait for some other time.

it's my other brother's birthday today. wonder if he's home, or flying to some exotic place. he's an airline pilot, so it's possible. i guess i'll send him a text message before i try calling.

beater

got out this weekend. thought we were racing the clock before the rain came. stupid weather app kept saying it was imminent. so we went to the closer show first at the community church.

that was busier than we expected. don't know why. it was sold out. but the promised rain did keep a lot of cars away. and mostly the cars we really wanted to shoot. so, after our fill of 1930s ford hot rods, we headed over to the swap meet.

unsuprisingly, parking was easy. clouds keep people away from swap meets. and it was still pretty early. turns out the car show was on the other side, so we had to walk through, get the bags searched.

was only about a dozen cars at the time. made the best of it, and shot some of them. some had their hoods up, some had too many people around them. chatted a bit with a couple of owners.

was fun, but then the getting up too early caught up with us, so we bailed.

liked this one, for all of it's wonderful messiness. maybe they'll leave it alone. i hope so. it's more fun like this.

didn't rain until last night. pfft.

screaming meemies

i don't know why i shot this car or more, why i'm bothering to post it. no idea for sure what it is. it has some ford looking headlights and grille, but it's had some over the top cosmetic surgery.

i think what i enjoyed more than taking a picture of this thing, was the elderly asian couple that had been taking pictures of each other in front of various cars, this one included. suddenly, the old guy started screaming at the wife loudly in whichever language they spoke. kinda like a car wreck, i stared for a while, facinated like watching foreign soap operas on cable.

at this point, i can't remember if the old lady gave as good as she got, or if she just ignored him. i suspect the former.

they were still yelling when i left the area. maybe she didn't get his good side.

getting late again...how does that keep happening? gotta get some sleep, gotta get stuck with a big needle tomorrow. i think i'm stalling going to bed...maybe morning won't get here so soon...

i had a whole story in my head earlier, and now it's completely flown from my head. so i'll just let this picture do the talking.

anniversary gift

i've seen this car a couple of times now. first time was last month.

ernie, from the latin gents, tells me his wife had found a car that she wanted him to have a look at. they drive over and check it out, all is good.

turns out it was for sale. his wife hands over the cash, which she just happens to have had with her, and hands ernie the keys, saying "happy anniversary!"

now that's a wonderful wife, and she really, really loves you, ernie.

we should all be so lucky. i know i am, even if my better half doesn't ever buy me a car like this one. :) i'd be more of a fleetline girl anyway.

road warrior

i always feel worn out after the drive home from work. typically takes over an hour when it should only be about forty-five minutes.

and people on the freeway are insane, so i'm not the only one. but really, most people drive fine; it's the one too many f-holes that think they are exceptional and the road is theirs. you know the ones i mean—they swerve in and out of lanes, giving semi-trucks no effective warning or brake space. they'll drive up the shoulder if need be.

ya, my hands hurt sometimes from gripping the wheel too tight. after a long day at work, followed by that drive, i feel about as old and tired as this truck.

but it's still here. and so am i. i need a vacation, but don't have one scheduled. maybe i'll visit my kid tomorrow and sit in the jacuzzi. better half can't go anywhere on weekends until his mother is better, and even then he'll worry about her.

home, sick

apparently the office cold has caught up with me. was able to work from home yesterday, and enjoy coughing up a lung without glares from coworkers. really not that bad, at least yet. i was going to go to several car shows this weekend, but i think if i made the move to head for the door, my better half would tackle me.

i think he's testing me now. he slathered me with vicks vaporub, and hoped i'd stay put while he took his mom to disneyland. i could just take a shower and go to one show, and be back before dinner. but really, i already have a few pictures i can play with, and i guess this is just one of those days i save them up for, right?

so i'll spare you my cooties, and stay put. i'll probably take a shower, and wash off this sticky stench of vicks. so gross. if they run too late, i will go uptown and find some dinner, but i will otherwise just stay here watching old reruns and looking through my files for some other cars to post.

saw this one last weekend at the classics/temptation show in santa ana. so glad the clouds started rolling back in half way through the time we were there. skies and the reflections on the spit shined cars are always so much better. and as always, the hood ornament.
