what's up?

newport news

1962 chrysler newport

can't let my better half get all the glory on his page. here's one of my shots of a sultan's car.

hadn't seen this one since last march in lakewood. back when i was just getting started and took the majority of shots from low angles, as shown here. i think it needed to be redone at a higher angle, to get a better view of the flames on the car.

still very clean, and the paint really reflects the lights from various sources in interesting patterns. glad i got the opportunity to shoot it at a different time of day.

this stunning car was at bob's big boy in downey a few weeks ago. caught it as the sun was beginning to set. just a gorgeous ride. not a blem anywhere.

i also like that i got a decent shot of the giant hamburger boy in the frame as well. he's actually kinda creepy/scary if you think like a little kid, kind of like the marshmallow guy in ghostbusters.

gimme the bird

1955 chrysler imperial

so another random post...this was really a beauty. sitting on the end of the street at the garden grove main street show a while back. they must like to park it here; if you search for 1955 imperial on google, this same car in this same location pops up first in the images. not taken on the same day, but interesting, since its on some german website. tourists? pure coinkydink? whatever.

i do remember seeing the owner of the '47 desoto leaning against a wall nearby talking to somebody, yet don't remember seeing the desoto that day...wonder if this one is his too? maybe just a coinkydink? lol.

anyway, i've been busy. summer is almost over and i'm trying to catch pieces of it before its too late, so excuse the few days between posts; i'm not always in the same place as my computer.

ah, so now i've done it. i've posted a car twice. perhaps you remember this one. back then i wished i had a better opportunity to shoot it; and here it was last week at the broiler. in the back lot. i took several shots of it, but for some reason i just liked this one.

i'm very busy this evening and this one was ready to go, so i hope it's all right with you.

(the lakers just won, i guess...neighbors are blowing off m-80s or something)

300

300

almost as buff as those guys in that 300 movie, this 1962 chrysler 300 caught my eye last week at the show at the former spires restaurant off the 605 and alondra. first time visiting this show. great selection of cars. a bit farther than i usually go, and i got there later than i intended on surface streets, avoiding the freeway. lots of friendly people, really good crowd waiting for the raffle/trophies.

talked to many people, watching the sun slip away. then decided to pack it up and head to the broiler. late, too cold, not many cars left. and more people stopping to chat. seeing more people showing up with tripods too. interesting.

oh, and my road trip to seattle was interesting too. you would not believe how many classic cars are sitting and rusting in junk yards and backyards along the highway through oregon and washington. too bad i did not have time to stop and check some of them out. anything from the 30s to late 60s frequently made me snap my head around to see.

I had hoped to squeeze in a car show, but the only one in town was too far away and it was raining. thought maybe i could visit the lemay auto museum but was taken on a tour of seattle instead, lunch at cheesecake factory and quick run through pike's place market, before being dropped off at the airport.

facing a tough week at work, extra hours...hoping to be able to post a picture each day, but not sure that i will be able to. probably won't be able to hit any car shows until friday at the earliest either. hmmm friday: ruby's in whittier or main street in garden grove...both so tempting.

downey. i'd never seen one of these before. my eye always looks for the emblems, hood ornaments, any other details that identify cars. i usually carry another camera with a macro lens for getting these things up close.
