what's up?

dark side of town

1939 chevy master deluxe

1939 chevy master deluxe

felt like crap all day. slept a lot. missed a car show. getting closer to halloween, so evening shows will start happening. this is a good thing, being how i hate the heat of the day, so the end of the day will do just as well.

woke up around four pm, and decided to head over to the latin gents show. this one is just monthly, i think, but i'd never been to this location. figured, i'd either feel better moving around, or i'd turn around and go home.

i didn't arrive until after six-thirty, so the sun was already heading down. not very many cars, but enough to shoot, since i was there. i decided that most people were probably home watching the dodger game.

saw my friend ernie, who came over to say hello. hadn't seen him in a while. he wondered which shows were coming up. told him the ones i could remember, that i'd need to check my calendar. really it all depends on how i'm feeling on any given day, in spite of my best intentions to get to a show. hoping to find out soon what the hell is going on with my insides.

owner of this master deluxe turned on his lights while i was shooting the car next to it. of course, that makes it more interesting to me, in spite of the open hood. ;)

he handed me a card for their toy drive next month. thank you very much, i'll add it to my list.

not so fast

digging through some older files for something else, and found this ferrari imitator. not a fav, but i do like the curves.

from the show they used to have in cypress. sometimes, it was a very busy show. no idea why they stopped having it, aside from the restaurant not being there anymore...which might be the problem.

put in a day of work that came in late on friday. didn't want to deal with it tomorrow, with all my other work that is piling up in the office.

tired and heading off to bed. not looking forward to getting up at four a.m.

great white

1958 cadillac

i've carried my cameras with me for the last couple of days. even drove to a show yesterday, got there early. sat in the lot for half an hour. only a couple of cars drove in, and i'd shot them several times previously. waited a bit more, then headed home without even getting out of the car. ya, maybe i should have waited longer. maybe i'll go back when the warmer weather and later sunsets are here.

then today, after sitting in front of the computer for 8 hours at work, i just didn't feel like going to either show on my way home. i think i'm just ready for the weekend off.

another practice baseball game tomorrow, and yup, already checked, a couple of car shows available to see in riverside, should i be in the area late enough.

this cadillac i see a lot. often at the broiler. i found a night shot of it in my favorite spot looking up at the neon. maybe i'll post it some other day. this shot was over at the summer show that happens in cypress, from last year. looks really clean at this size, but when i zoom in, i see the pitted paint, probably from being hit by dirt and rocks on the freeway, and the blemishes in the trim.

still really like this angle, but perhaps i'm stuck in a rut. i'll have to put up some other view next time.

put it where the sun does shine

1956 cadillac deville

first car show in over a week. bob's big boy was busier than it has been and the weather was perfect; not too hot, with a cool breeze. i got there a bit later than usual, as i stopped at home first and got my cameras. i've been stuck to my office chair too much lately, and it was good to get out. but of course, now it's late and i gotta get to bed.

i love when the guys park over here. pretty easy to frame up something interesting with the front of the broiler behind it. sun beginning to head south, so it really bounced the light around on this chrome back end. nice old caddie, no stuffed animals necessary...j/k.

chatted with several guys there. one guy said he'd seen me a couple of weeks ago at the show in cypress. had to think about the last time i'd been there...didn't stay long...was very hot that day. he'd wanted to tell me about a new show starting up on sunday mornings at woodruff & carson, but probably not this holiday weekend. guess i'll have to check it out. that and the donut derelicts in huntington beach, since the girl who x-rayed my teeth the other day said her dad shows his cars there, and he lives nearby. just kinda early for me to get there most weekends...just want to sleep in, ya know?

ghosts

1940 chevrolet

what is it with the ghost flames/color on color i see too often? they're there, but they're not, which is the whole point, i guess, but what a pita they are to photograph. even with a little bit of sparkle thrown in the mix, it's difficult to catch the light on them just right. the glitter throws the light all around and messes with my camera focus.

found this one in cypress. first time i made it there this year. i have pictures from last year, but i didn't remember it quite this flamey. gotta be the sunlight hitting it. i need to start carrying a little step ladder, not only to get the details here, but i'm seeing highly designed and airbrushed roof tops, that are just a shame to not be able to see from my height. i'm gonna take to leaping small buildings or standing on top of other cars or something. so aggravating when i see those and am too short to aim the camera, should i attempt to fully extend the tripod legs. guess i could just wing it and see what i get.

and it was all yellow

hot rod chevy

i finally took the time to drive out and shoot at the show in cypress. i've heard that there are sometimes up to 60 to 80 cars here. i guess maybe if you stay from beginning to end, there might be, but i didn't stay too late. there were more cars driving up as i packed it up. always makes me want to unpack and go get them too. but then i'd never get home, now would i?

ran into several people that i've seen at various shows. never know who will show up and where. constantly surprised to see cars that i haven't seen in months, and here they are again. forest gump shows...never know what you're gonna get.

anyway, i hadn't seen this one before and it was so conveniently located on the end of the row by itself, i had to take a picture of it. owner was nearby, and seems interested in buying a print, so here it is...what do you think?

big engine. looks like giant binoculars into the soul of the car, should you choose to take a peek...
