oh, it’s been awhile. busy busy at work. same old story.

had to hook up my computer, to find a pic for someone asking permission to use in some online class. a pic from chicano park several years ago. not sure what class it relates to, but sure. seemed to be a legit teacher that checked out.

after that, i started looking through some stuff, and ended up fiddling with this bel air until almost midnight, before i noticed the time. this was from november, and i don’t think i’ve been out shooting since. really should get out again, before we move away from whittier, and it gets more difficult to go to the local shows.

———

got my second pfizer shot yesterday, and my arm is really sore today. can’t decide if it is just the shot or how the shooter grabbed a chunk of my arm like grabbing a handful of ass, and jammed the needle in. no bruising, so going with it’s just the expected soreness. and tired, but i’m always tired.

better half was down in this neighborhood, as we had transported a couple of cars worth of stuff to storage. he noticed i was tired, and thought he’d book a hotel on a spur of the moment. wasn’t far away. we had nothing with us, no clothing, toothbrush, etc., so stopped and picked up a few things before heading to the hotel.

on arrival, we are told by the snooty concierge —think the maître d' in ferris bueller—that they were sold out, and there was no reservation. turned out that he had reserved a room a couple weeks from then, in may. couldn’t cancel at the front desk, as it was booked through one of the travel sites.

so, out in the car, we both see if another hotel nearby is available. he found another, but they were booked up. i found one, and got the room, direct from the hotel website.

when we got there, the receptionist seemed confused, as they had no rooms available, at least with a king-size bed. we didn’t really care, just hoped there was a room, as i’d already told my mom that what our plans were, and i was looking forward to a dog-free evening.

she called the hotel next door, but they were also booked up. after all that and a long winded, unclear explanation, she gave us the room, and said we’d shown up first and someone else would have to deal with not having a king-size bed. it was fine, though the tub didn’t drain very well.

i think my better half was just concerned i’d have some weird reaction to the vaccine, and wanted to be on hand. and/or he just misses hanging out with me.

what else is going on? flew off a curb about a month ago. out walking the giant dog beast before bed one night. i try to take him out late enough to avoid running into other people walking dogs, as he tends to get all defensive and aggressive with most while on a leash. he’s around a hundred and ten pounds of muscle, with bit of a belly, and almost at a tipping point of me not being able to hold him back. best if i can get a car between others and myself, since if he doesn’t see them coming, he mostly doesn’t do anything.

well, the tipping point finally came. about two blocks from the house, no cars around, and spotted someone coming up the street on a slow moving bike. the dog also hates bikes, and people running. so, i tried to prepare, and had the leash with both hands, and what i thought was a firm stance.

usually, people notice the dog, and at least move to the other side of the street, to add some distance. not this lady. seemed to be in a reverie, possibly wearing headphones, for all i know stoned. had a glow light on her bike, like those cheap necklaces you buy at carnivals or disneyland, that have the chemical reaction when you snap them, and burn out by the next day or two.

anyway, this idiot, just keeps coming towards us. the dog lunges, and barks his head off. i fly in the air, like i just don’t care. no choice, really. i fly off the curb, and it really does seem like slow motion, attached to said dog by four feet of nylon leash, and land in the street on my hip and knees, and promptly get dragged several feet. while wearing shorts.

the cyclist never changed speed, never stopped, never looked back. just kept on going.

no one looks out the window or comes running. i know there was a lady sitting her porch a few houses down, but nope.

the dog is still rattled, but is now just standing over me in the street on full alert. i guess no one would have been able to help me if i had been badly hurt with that asshole standing there.

somehow i have not broken anything. i didn’t hit my head, but with nothing covering my legs, my left calf is all shredded from the drag on the pavement, and bleeding. some scratches on my foot. the hand gripping the leash, has a scratch on the pinky, which continued to pop for several weeks, so maybe i sprained it.

my phone didn’t break, so i could have called my mom to come get me.

i rolled into a sitting position, and couldn’t get up. the dog just kept looking at me dumbly. i really didn’t want to have to get on my knees in the street to stand up, but since the dog isn’t lassie, and wouldn’t pull me up, i had to. my legs were stiff, and i just barely did it.

his walk ended there, and we limped home. i saw the bike rider up ahead a few blocks, as we rounded the corner towards my mom’s house. still just moseying along.

the other lady was still sitting on her porch btw. thanks for nothing.

limped into the kitchen, and my mom commented, “that didn’t take long,” before noticing the blood dripping down my leg. my adrenaline filled mind rattled off the story shakily, and i gimped over to the sink to wash the dirt and blood off. pretty sure more than a few choice words of endearment flew out about the dog, who had just slinked away and was watching from the carpet.

anyway, i’m hoping there’s no scarring after all the scabbage has fallen off; where it has, it’s still discolored, but fading.

i really don’t know why i didn’t break a hip or a leg.
